What is 'A Program of Miracles'?
A Program of Miracles is a spiritual program that takes us to the roots of our distress and offers us a way out of it. It shows us how we can recover from a life of dissatisfaction and heartache. It suggests compassion coupled with courage to help us climb out of the darkness.
It has been created for anyone who wants to heal old wounds, discover a new freedom from pain, resentment and fear, and find love.
Who is it for?
The people who are attracted to the program are those of us who've lost our way and want to get back home.
The symptoms we suffer from are:
Feelings of hopelessness
Feel as if life has no meaning.
We have questions like:
What's the point?
Who am I?
Why can't I be happy?
Some of us have tried to connect with the current thinking that if we truly come into the present moment then we can resolve old issues. However, that doesn't work for everyone, despite popular psychology insisting it's the only way. Some of us need to dig deep and figure out what happened to us in the past and take steps put it right in the present. For many of us, this is the way to guarantee a peaceful and productive future.
Going against the grain
The current flow of advice coming from the world of psychiatry and psychology is to 'fix it quick' through medication. The problem is that we've tried quick fixes but they haven't worked.
The Program of Miracles is not a quick fix; it is a slow burn. It takes you, by the hand, from the beginning of your life, guides you through your previous experience and helps you to change your future.
When all else has failed
Many of us have tried therapy, prescription drugs, yogic retreats, meditation or hypnosis yet we still felt empty? Why is that? It's because we haven't done this type of work.
The 'work' refers to the powerful, but active process that helps you identify the causes of your suffering and suggests how to live at a higher function. This work is similar to other processes, such as therapy, whose purpose is to seek self-discovery.
The Program of Miracles takes you through a series of exercises, which help you to discover your real self. They are designed to be done weekly to allow the psyche to absorb and acknowledge each step. When we do this type of work it helps release us from the pain of our past.
This program is not easy
There is no getting away from the fact that this work is hard. Many people do not stay the course because they are not ready to get to the roots of their distress. However, working this program is not as hard as living with depression, anxiety and hopelessness.
How does it work?
The Program of Miracles works by taking you to the very beginning and leading you through a series of tasks and exercises that will help you to understand who you are, why you suffer and show you how to heal.
The program takes us to the start of our life and helps us understand how our life became chaotic, how we tried to control it and how the chaos affected our early years.
It teaches us how we were never able to control the chaos in spite of us doing everything possible to make it right because we often felt it was our fault. It then challenges us to see that we can now let go of that chaos and begin to feel the relief of knowing we were never responsible for the adults.
It asks us to look at how our early behavior has affected our adult lives. It helps to clarify some of the confusion about our depression, high levels of anxiety, why we aren’t happy and why we feel lost and lonely.
We discover things like the reasons for our relationships not working out or why we sabotage our success. We begin to locate our real self, the source of our pain and discover how we can heal the old wounds.
We then start the big clean up by reaching out. We reset our life path, become more honest with others and put right the wrongs of our past.
Finally we learn to integrate meditation and prayer, live with new values and begin to help others to do the same.
The Program Of Miracles is based on a 30-year search for true happiness written by Alexandra Massey.
It combines the wisdom of extraordinary spiritual teachers, ground breaking courses, astonishing conversations with fellow seekers and the influence of some of the best evolutionary writers.
It embraces the knowledge of Tibetan Buddhism and the Human Givens movement; the philosophy of Transcendental Meditation and the incredible intelligence of all 12 Step fellowships.
It encompasses the influence of brilliant minds in the field of psychology like Lawrence Kohlberg - a Harvard psychologist and Erik Erikson - a psychoanalyst known for his theory on psychosocial development of human beings.
